I've neglected my DA so much in favour of Cosplay Island, and even that is quieter these days. I find it a great site for keeping track of which costumes I'd like to do, but you just don't get the same amount of feedback and networking that I'd like. I'm always on the lookout for groups to join up in.
Angel Tear Cosplay
Facebook has been the main place for me to do this so I threw together a cosplay-related Facebook page and I'm amazed at the reception it's gotten so far. People have been very supportive and I'm always looking forward to expanding it and adding photos of costumes I've done, and eventually progress for the costumes I'll be making in the new year (I'm getting fabric on them later today to get a head start.
To be honest there has been so much going on in my life in the last year that cosplay has become something of a therapy for me and gotten me through it. Stepping out of my own shoes and into those of a magical girl, a glittering idol, or a school girl who lives in a fictional world for a weekend has been perfect and I want to thank those who have made it so enjoyable for me.
I've also had a lot of people question why I cosplay, or to tell me to stop and put more priority into other things - which I am. I'm not literally making cosplay all the time, right?
But I've come down to the conclusion, thanks to my other half that people who have never cosplayed or been to a convention will never be able to fully understand what goes on there. We can tell them in theory that there is a dealers hall, a masquerade, a selection of skits and panels of voice actors. But that's not really it is there?
In those panels you get in-jokes that can last for years to come. Cosplayers gain confidence with every compliment and photograph to document the self worth that grows with it. They get to show their other talents off within those skits. It's all so valuable to us to grow as individuals and it's not just something that can be expressed in a few lines to somebody who has never experienced it.
Anyhow, I think it's time for me to get my gloves on ready for the scuffle of cheap fabrics for me to roll around in.
See you soon my snowy angels!
